Opelzoo Kronberg (2)

The Opel Zoo (by Opel Hessische Zoostiftung) is the second larger zoological garden in the Rhine-Main area. It was founded in 1956 on the initiative of Georg von Opel as a research project and was launched in 2007 in a foundation. With around 750,000 visitors, it is today one of the most visited leisure and cultural institutions in Hesse.

The Opel Zoo is financed exclusively by entrance fees and donations. In the zoo live about 1600 animals in 200 species from all continents and climatic zones. In contrast to the Frankfurt zoo, the Opel Zoo still accommodates (African) elephants, which are viewed by many visitors as an elementary zoo animal species and arouse a corresponding spectator interest.
