Von Mainz nach Fulda
Sehenswürdigkeiten

The Bonifatius route from Mainz to Fulda. The approximately 172 km of the entire route can also be divided well into single cells.

Gently rolling vineyards, vast plains alternating with woody middle valleys and winding valleys, but also the diverse fauna and flora offer the hiker and pilgrim on the Bonifatius route a varied scenery. Contemplative monasteries, old field chapels, crosses and picture-blocks as well as romantic village churches accompany the pilgrims as a stone witness to the Christian culture. Impressive monuments from the Romanesque to the Gothic and the Baroque tell of the turbulent and rich history of the landscapes along the route, thus opening up historical connections.

Without the Prussians Frankfurt might never have got its palm garden. Its foundation in 1868 owes itself to an emergency - and a courageous "citizens' initiative". At that time, Duke Adolph of Nassau, whose castle grounds in Wiesbaden-Biebrich encompassed some 200 exotic plants, fell into financial hardship. When the duchy was annexed like Prussia in 1866, the noble Botanicus was compelled to sell his famous "Biebrich Wintergardens" and commissioned Heinrich Siesmayer (1817-1900).
